Full re-roofs in Epsom
Complete strip-down and replacement of pitched roofs across Epsom, Ewell and Surrey, in slate, clay or concrete tiles.
Full re-roofs
When a roof has reached the end of its life, patching it only buys time. A full re-roof starts again from the rafters: the old covering comes off, new breathable underlay and treated battens go on, and the roof is re-covered in slate, concrete or clay tiles, with new ridges, hips and leadwork where they're needed.
It's the biggest job we do, so we take it step by step with you: a proper look at the roof first, a free written quote that sets out the materials and the work, and a tidy site at the end of every day.
What a full re-roof includes
- Scaffolding and protection for your garden, driveway and neighbours
- Stripping the old tiles or slates, battens and felt
- Checking the rafters and replacing any rotten timber
- New breathable underlay and treated battens
- Re-covering in slate, concrete or clay tiles to suit the house
- New ridge and hip tiles (bedded or a dry-fix system), valleys and leadwork
- Clearing every bit of waste away when we're done
Signs it's time for a new roof
- Slipped, cracked or missing tiles keep coming back after repairs
- Daylight or damp patches in the loft
- Old felt that crumbles or sags between the rafters
- Moss and growth holding water on the roof
- Repair bills that are adding up year after year
Not every tired-looking roof needs replacing. If a repair will do the job properly, we'll tell you.
Re-roofing Epsom homes
Epsom has a real mix of roofs, and the right covering depends on the house. Late Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Pikes Hill have brick walls and slate roofs, the 1930s Wells Estate was laid out around the old mineral spring, and the Downs Road Estate's late-1950s Wates houses have clay pantiles. Older roofs in Church Street and Chalk Lane are clad in natural slate and handmade clay tiles.
Epsom and Ewell Borough Council looks after 21 conservation areas, and in several of them (including Church Street, College Road, Pikes Hill, Stamford Green and Worple Road) Article 4 Directions mean you need permission even to change the roof covering. If your home is in one, a like-for-like match is usually the answer. It's worth checking with the council before you commit, and we'll flag it when we look at your roof.

Questions
How long does a full re-roof take?
It depends on the size and shape of the roof and the weather. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your quote.
Can you match my existing tiles or slates?
Usually, yes. We'll look at what's on the roof now and suggest the closest match, or a better option if the current covering has failed.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof?
Not normally for like-for-like, but conservation areas with Article 4 Directions are different. Check with Epsom and Ewell Borough Council if your road is in one.
